Alan Michael Guimont*

Alan Michael, Guimont, 64, SOUTH PORTLAND -- Alan Michael Guimont, 64, of South Portland, died on April 27, 2011, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House following a long illness., He was born on Jan. 13, 1947, in Portland, the son of Paul A. and Alice O'Leary Guimont. Alan attended local schools and was a 1965 graduate of Portland High School., In September 1966, Alan joined the, and proudly served his country during the Viet Nam Conflict and was awarded the Army Commendation medal for valor and action that occurred during the 1968 Tet offensive. He served one tour of duty in Viet Nam and also served in Germany. On Aug. 31, 1968, he married the former L. Marie McCalmon. Al and Marie had graduated from grammar school together and late from Portland High School., After being separated from active duty, Alan returned to Portland and began working for Grossman's Lumber Company. He quickly moved from a position in retail sales to store manager. He and his family relocated to Bangor where he worked as store manager until 1978. He then accepted a position with Loring, Short and Harmon starting in their Bangor location and returned to Portland in 1986 to work out of the company home office. Alan later accepted a manufactures representative position with Yankee Sales Corporation. He then worked as a direct sales representative for Staedtler Corporation. In 1999, Alan joined FairPoint Communication as a sales manager in Standish. He recently worked in the events marketing department., He is a communicant at St. John the Evangelist Church, serving as a lector and member of the finance committee. He is a member of the ROMEOs (Real Old Men Eating Out), a weekly gathering of Al's brother Brian and nephew Colin as well as some friends whom he had known since high school. Al was also a former member of the Bangor Kiwanis Club., Alan was a skilled craftsman and was always delighted to offer his talents to his friends and family. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends and had a goal of playing golf in every state reaching the number of 32 states before his passing., He was predeceased by his father, Paul Guimont in 2007; and a sister, Sharon McDermott in 2009. Survivors include his beloved wife, L. Marie Guimont of South Portland; his mother, Alice Guimont of Portland; a daughter, Nichole Reasoner and her husband Glenn of Gorham, a son, Jonathan Paul Guimont of Portland; two sisters, Paula Kennedy and her husband Lyman of Falmouth, Kathy Sparta of Falmouth, a brother, Brian Guimont and his wife Janice of Gray; two grandchildren, Sam Reasoner and Shawn Duross; and many nieces and nephews that he loved., Visiting hours will be held on Friday, April 29, from 5 to 9 p.m., at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway. Prayers will be recited at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday at the chapel, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Church, Main Street, South Portland. Ann Elizabeth Stinson (Small) Bauer

DEER ISLE - Ann Elizabeth (Small) Stinson Bauer, 83, passed away April 11, 2011, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born Sept. 2, 1927, in Lewiston. As a child, Ann resided at the Plummer family homestead in Auburn with her parents, Wesley A. and Mabel H. Small, and extended family of grandparents and great-aunts. The Plummer homestead was settled by Ann's great-great-great-grandfather, William Plummer, in 1785, after his service in the American Revolution, and is maintained to this day by the family. Ann's initial education was provided by her father at Jordan School, Auburn, a one-room elementary school, during the time of the Great Depression. Ann graduated from Edward Little High School, Auburn, and then earned a bachelor's degree at Bates College, Lewiston. She worked for a period as the children's librarian at Rumford Public Library before moving to New York City, where she graduated from Columbia University, earning a master's degree in library science. During her time at Columbia, Ann was employed at Newark Public Library in New Jersey. After graduation, Ann was employed as the children's librarian at New York Public Library until returning to Maine in 1955. Ann opened and directed the Munjoy Hill branch of Portland Public Library until becoming the director of Lewiston Public Library. In 1965, Ann was recruited to design and build the South Portland Public Library, where she remained as director until 1973 when she moved to Deer Isle with her husband, Willard "Sonny" Stinson. Ann and Sonny were married for 41 years until her death. During their many years together in Deer Isle they were well-respected neighbors known for their kindness, generosity and passion for the cultivation of organic vegetables. Ann is survived by her son, John J. Bauer of Auburn; cousins, Rose Ebsworth of England and Pricilla Woodward of Stonington; a niece, Sharon Coulomb of Poland; and a nephew, Steven Small of Auburn. She was predeceased by her parents; and her brother, Wesley A. Small Jr., all of Auburn. Services will be announced. Donations may be made to any Deer Isle scholarship. Anne E. B., (Hewey) Bucklin, May 7, 1932 - April 13, 2011, SILVER SPRINGS, Fla. -- Anne E. B. (Hewey) Bucklin passed suddenly at her home in Silver Springs, Fla., She was born in Westbrook on May 7, 1932, the daughter of the late Everett and Dorotha (Smith) Berry., She was predeceased by Roger Bucklin, her husband of 20 years; her brother, Robert Berry; and two sons-in-law, David Ray and David Wing. Anne is survived by daughters, Marilyn Wing of New Gloucester, Sharon Cameron of Biddeford, Brenda Hewey of Oceanside, Calif., Ruth Anne Drew of Windham, son Paul Hewey of Gray; 23 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; siblings, Albert Berry of New Gloucester; sister-in-law, Mary Berry of Gray; sister, Judith Huff of Gray; along with many nieces and nephews., Anne lived in Gray where she attended schools. She was a homemaker and caregiver for her family until they were grown and then she went to work for Bonon, and then Shape in Scarborough where she was a Production Worker and Quality Control Supervisor, Spencer Press in Wells, Village Cove Inn in Kennebunkport, and John Knox in Florida., She was an awarded artist with a flair. She painted many portraits of family members, including herself and her late husband, Roger. She was hired to paint wedding portraits for some of her friends. She also painted still life, birds, flowers and pets. She started sketching when she was just a child and her collections are treasured., Anne loved the outdoors; she loved fishing, camping, hunting, snowmobiling, and ice fishing with the family. She loved animals and assisted the care for many on the farm on Totten Road. She had a heart for the needy and took in many children under the foster care program. She never turned down a need if she could manage to help., She loved music. She studied piano for five years as a child and sang in the church choir. As a mother she taught her daughters to harmonize and later they joined the choir., She enrolled in Sweet Adeline's Portland Chapter in 1970 and later became a member in the Arundel Yankee Belles in 1979. While in Florida she participated in a square dancing club, Round Squares in 1980. She enjoyed creating her own costumes and loved to dance. She also became a member of American Legion Auxiliary in 2001., A funeral service will be held at the Bible Believing Baptist Church, 2 Rod Rd., Gray, on Sunday, May 1, 2011, at 2 p.m. Fellowship will follow the service down stairs until 5 p.m., Anne E. Bernard J. Mann

BANGOR - Bernard J. Mann, 101, died peacefully April 26, 2011, in his home. He was born June 9, 1909, in Bangor, the son of Joel F. and Claire (Drinkwine) Mann. Mr. Mann, "Doc" Mann, was a devoted father and teacher. He was a communicant of St. John's Catholic Church and a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus Pine Cone Council. He generously shared his time and enthusiasm as a volunteer in many organizations, including Bangor Senior Center, area nursing homes and hospitals. He held leadership positions in the Boy Scouts of America Katahdin Area Council. The Doc Mann Nature Lodge at Camp Roosevelt, named in his honor, is a learning center for the council ecology program. He was honored for his distinguished service to the Boy Scouts of America with the Silver Beaver Award. He was devoted to youth in many organizations, including YMCA, Camp Jordan and Camp Roosevelt, as a youth coach in chess and golf, and a religious educator. He taught for many years in the Bangor School System and at Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute. A lifelong learner, he loved to share with and teach people of all ages and fondly remembered many students and stories from his long career. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary G. Mann. He is survived by his beloved son, Christopher Mann of Bangor; three nieces, Maggie Dutil, Shirley Cassidy and Mary Kimball; several great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at Greenlawn Memorial Funeral Home, 300 State St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church. AUGUSTA -- Carolyn M. Daley, 87, of Augusta, died Sunday April 25, 2011 at the Augusta Rehabilitation Center., She was born in Augusta, April 1, 1924, the daughter of Daniel and Dorella (Parent) Daley. Carolyn graduated from Cony High School in 1942 and went on to attend George Washington University. While in Washington, D.C., she worked for the Department of Labor. She married Alan Gray and moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., where she lived for 47 years, working for Pan Am and several other companies doing statistics. In 1995, after the death of her beloved son, Bobby, she returned to Maine and went to work for the National Council on Aging; Big Brothers, Big Sisters; Families First; United Way and the Maine Department of Labor., Kay was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church, was past president of the Women's Auxiliary, Post 2 American Legion, volunteered at the Bread of Life soup kitchen and enjoyed spending time using her computer. She made many friends and enjoyed socializing with them. She especially loved all things Irish., Ms. Daley was predeceased by her son, Robert J. WASHINGTON -- Clifton E. Crummett, 75, a resident of the West Washington Road, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a period of failing health., Clifton was born June 4, 1935, in Somerville, the son of Charles and Mildred Erving Crummett, and attended Somerville schools. He left school early upon the untimely death of his father to work in the woods, using his wages to support his family., For many years, he worked in the woods as a woodcutter. He was also employed by several local companies as a truck driver, including Mariner Paving., He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping, was known to have the biggest vegetable garden in Washington for many years, enjoyed going to dances, especially at Goodwill Circle Hall, and for the last few years, spending time with his grandsons, teaching them to drive the tractor and four wheelers, and attending their baseball games. Clifton was a longtime member of the Sportsman Alliance of Maine, and the National Rifle Association., Fighting diabetes for most of his life, he has been a longtime client of the Damariscotta Dialysis Unit. The family sincerely thanks the entire staff for their care and friendship over the years., Clifton is predeceased by his wife, Janet Richards Crummett, who died in 2002; and a brother, Clyde Crummett., Survivors include two sons, Damon Crummett, and his companion, Coco, of Waldoboro, and Dalton Crummett and his companion, Lorie Mank, of West Washington; two grandsons, Braden Crummett of West Washington and Cody Crummett of Waldoboro; a brother, Orin "Buddy" Crummett, of Somerville; two sisters, Ethel Bartlett of Washington and Lessie Lloy of Coopers Mills; and several nieces and nephews., Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Douglas A. Woodard

ETNA - Douglas A. Woodard, 59, died Monday, April 18, 2011, at his home. Doug was born Feb. 3, 1952, in Bangor, the son of Malcolm and Georgie (Allum) Woodard. He graduated from Hermon High School, Class of 1971, and married Polly Jo Davis Jan. 13, 1973. He was employed by the state of Maine Department of Transportation for 25 years, where he retired as maintenance supervisor in 1996. Doug was a devoted family man, friend and helpful neighbor. He was a compassionate and determined man, who was very driven, hard working and dedicated to maintaining the family farm. Doug was known for his sense of humor and helpful nature. He loved farming, carpentry, working with machinery and coin collecting. Always a student, he enjoyed learning through educational programs and studying astronomy with his telescope. He also loved nature and took pleasure in photographing fall and winter scenery. Mostly, he enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends and lending a helping hand whenever needed. He will be lovingly missed. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Polly Jo Woodard of Etna; his daughter, Tyra Payne and her husband, Joe, of Hermon; his newborn grandson, Cayden; his mother, Georgie Woodard of Carmel; several brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Malcolm Woodard; several brothers and sisters. The family will receive friends 4-6 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, May 2, with the Rev. Eleanor "Ellie" (Haley) Tibbetts

CALAIS and PORTLAND - Eleanor "Ellie" (Haley) Tibbetts, 75, died peacefully Tuesday, April 26, 2011, surrounded by her family, in Portland, after a long illness. She was born Jan. 27, 1936, in Islington, Mass., daughter of the late Everett and Mary Haley. Ellie graduated from Westwood High School in 1953 and subsequently graduated from Chandler School of Business and Washington County Technical College where she was employed for many years until her retirement. She married the late Robert E. Tibbetts, Esq., in 1958, and they lived together in Long Beach, Calif., and Foxboro, Mass., before relocating to Calais in 1969. Ellie was employed by Foxboro Co. until relocating to Calais, where she chose to stay home and devote herself to raising her three children. In the 1980s, she returned to school to freshen her skills and upon graduation became employed by what was then Washington County Vocational Technical Institute. She retired in 1998 as administrative assistant to the president. Ellie was fortunate to enjoy many trips to domestic and international locations with her late husband; she especially enjoyed warmer climates and looked forward to their Florida vacations each year. In later years, she developed an active interest in gardening and looked forward to planting begonias in her window boxes every spring. She also enjoyed volunteering at Calais Regional Hospital Coffee Shop and in the Calais school system. She was an active member of First Congregational Church of Calais, St. Croix International Garden Club and Calais Benevolent Society. Ellie is survived by three children, Michelle Z. Tibbetts of Bath, Lisa M. Tibbetts of Portland and Michael R. Tibbetts of Portland. She also is survived by one grandson, three brothers, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. The entire Tibbetts family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at Maine Center for Cancer Medicine, Scarborough; and to Eleanor's many neighbors, special friends and relatives who did so much to aid her in battling her illness. WATERVILLE -- Eleanora "Babs" Morway, 93, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at Mount St. Joseph in Waterville., She was born in Worcester, Mass., Dec. 15, 1917, the youngest child of Anthony and Anna (Lavis) Paulukonis., She graduated from Commerce High School in 1936 and Fairchild Office School in Worcester, Mass., She and her late husband, Bernard J. Morway, moved to Fairfield in 1944, and owned and operated Admor Cleaners in Waterville for 36 years. Mrs. Morway was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Winslow, where she lived for 20 years. She was a former member of Daughters of Isabella in Fairfield, Zonta Club, Elks Ladies Auxiliary and the Community Garden Club. She volunteered at Thayer hospital., She will be remembered for her love of family and friends and for her wonderful sense of humor. Her kindness to others left an immediate and lasting impression on everyone she met. She was very proud of her Lithuanian heritage. She enjoyed watching all sports, especially the Red Sox and the Patriots, and playing cribbage with her grandchildren. Her six grandchildren affectionately called her "Nanny." She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, two brothers and three sisters., Surviving are four daughters, Barbara Harvey and husband William of Manchester, Beverly Watts and friend Charles of Augusta, Betty Smith and husband Ronald W. of Kennebunk, and Bonnie Largess and husband James of Newry; grandchildren Eric and Margot Rollins, Polly Smith Newhall, the twins Adam and Jake, and Samantha Largess; four great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two nieces and three nephews., The family would like to thank Mount St. Joseph, Sunset Home and HealthReach Hospice for their compassionate care of their mother., A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2011, at St. Francis de Sales Church, 52 Elm St., Waterville. AUBURN — Mr. George H. Ferguson, age 88, a resident of Pine St. in Lisbon Falls passed away Monday evening April 25th at The Hospice House with family at his side. He died from a number of debilitating diseases, but most prominently from a broken heart from the loss of his wife of 60 years, Anna in 2005. Mr. Ferguson was born in Lewiston, July 19, 1922 the son of Valerie and Hugh Ferguson and the brother to Arthur, Helen and Francis Ferguson. He was educated in local schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community.

WATERVILLE -- George Longley Buzzell Jr., age 76, of Waterville, passed away unexpectedly on April 24, 2011. He was born May 8, 1934, in Benton, the son of M. Marie (Harding) and George L. Buzzell Sr., He attended school in Benton and Fairfield and then joined the Marine Corps in November 1954, where he was honored with the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and U.H. Service Medal. In 1954, he married Annette (Joler) White, and they had seven children together. Then, in March 1981, he married Shirley Tardiff of Fairfield, whom he loved very much and shared a wonderful life of 30 years with., George had many jobs over the years, including driving a truck, working for Keyes Fiber, Waterville Window, Avian Farms and delivering flowers for Flo's Flower Cart. He enjoyed the work very much and loved seeing the bright smiles that the flowers brought to people., His hobbies included playing Wii bowling, being a frustrated but devoted Red Sox fan, avid reading, golfing and watching Patriots football games. He will be sadly missed by his canine companion, Casco, who was his pal and buddy and went everywhere with him. They especially enjoyed going for walks and rides in the car. George was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion of Fairfield., He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Shirley Buzzell, of Waterville; his brother, Joseph Buzzell and wife Priscilla of Benton; his sister, Joyce Wheeler, of Norridgewock; nine children, David Buzzell and wife Manuela of Georgia, Richard Buzzell and wife Laurie of Clinton, Rose LeClair and husband Steve of Hinkley, Donna Melhuish of Pennsylvania, Anne Buzzell of Lewiston, Brenda Miranda and husband David of Florida, Steven Buzzell and girlfriend Michele Dubois of Waterville, Tammy Gannaway-Kerr and husband Chris of Pittsfield, and stepson Jeff Fortier of New Jersey; and stepchildren Cyndi Backer, Debbie Sullivan and Steve Poulin, of Oregon; 19 grandchildren, Aaron, Ashlee, Cameron, Casie, Chad, Courtney, David, Dustin, Garrett, Jamie, Jasmine, Krista, Macky, Melissa, Michael, Sam, Tiffany, Victoria and Virginia; and nine great-grandchildren. CARMEL and CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Gloria G. Burgess passed away April 18, 2011, after a brave battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl Burgess; and a son, James Burgess. She is survived by her daughters, Judith Burgess of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Diane Burgess Murphy of Carrboro, N.C.; stepsons, Robert Burgess and Walter Burgess of Tennessee and Larry Burgess of Connecticut; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that she loved dearly. She grew up in Dover-Foxcroft and attended Dover-Foxcroft High School. She loved to cook for her family, read, knit and crochet. She was a very kind and loving woman and will be sadly missed by all. ASHLAND - Hazel Emma (Boxwell) Lafland, 89, passed away peacefully April 26, 2011, at Gardiner Health Care Facility, Houlton. She was born June 15, 1921, in Ashland, daughter of Albert and Mabel (Kennedy) Boxwell. Hazel lived in Ashland most of her life. Hazel loved to read and was always up to date on current news and the weather. In her earlier years she helped local farmers cut seed potatoes in the spring and in the fall she could be found picking many barrels of potatoes in the local potato fields. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and picking wild strawberries in the backfield. She also loved feeding and watching the wild birds regardless of the season, always making sure they had feed. Hazel is survived by one son, Larry Lafland and wife, Eileen, of Dedham; 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two daughters, Gloria Lewin and Ola Poitraw; one son, LeRoy Farris; three brothers, Hubert, Ervin and Burton Boxwell; five sisters, Inez McEachern, Mavis Moran, Avis Leclarc, Loena Sutherland and Merritta Hickman; one grandson, Paul; a granddaughter, Avis; and a great-granddaughter, Trish. Hazel's family thanks the staff at Gardiner Health Care for their kind and gentle care. They also thank the at-home nursing staff, Meals on Wheels staff and everyone that made it possible for her to stay at home as long as she did. She was born Nov. 21, 1942, in Melrose, Mass., daughter of Dr. Robert and Catherine (McManus) Hormell of Melrose, Mass. She grew up in Melrose, Mass., and graduated from Melrose High School. She also was a graduate of the University of Maine, Orono, where she earned her nursing degree. As a registered nurse, she taught nursing at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. Jane dedicated her life to public service. In 2008 she retired as executive director of Meredith Public Health Nursing Association, Meredith, N.H., after 34 years of public health service to the Meredith community. She was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award, given to her by Meredith, , for her years of community service. Jane is survived by her husband of 47 years, Paul W. Jennie Louise Ramsey Hurd Craib, 87, ALFRED -- Jennie Craib, 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 26, 2011, from the comfort of her Alfred home. While rejoicing that she has been able to join her loved ones who have gone before, she will be sorely missed by those remaining. In the words of her nieces, she was 'a generous, kind, classy woman; despite her pain, she always offered a smile, a hug, and something sweet to eat.', Jennie was born in Saco on Dec. 21, 1923, the daughter of Frank Edward Ramsey and Sophie Smith Ramsey. She grew up the seventh of eight children in Milton, N.H. She was known as a cheerful, happy child., She graduated from Nute High School in 1941, where her senior yearbook stated that she had 'The smile that won't come off.' That indeed was true of her throughout her life, despite trials that would come her way., In 1944 she eloped with her first husband, George 'Bud' Irl Hurd, a man with a keen sense of humor and love of life. He died of sudden heart failure in 1969. She later met William Craib, with whom she also eloped. They had 20 wonderful years together before he died of melanoma in 1994., She leaves behind two sisters, Sophie Ramsey Hurd and Ruth Ramsey Tanner; many nieces, nephews; and grandnieces and nephews. Joan "Joby" attended local Gardiner schools and graduated from Gardiner High School., On July 26, 1954, she married Manly "Pat, Red" Hiltz of Chelsea., Joan worked at many local businesses and became an exceptional hand sewer of leather shoes at Gardiner Shoe and Taylor Shoe in Augusta and other local factories. Later, she worked for Depositors Trust Co. and Key Services in Augusta, retiring after 20-plus years., Joan also started her own business "Joan's Redemption" at her home in Chelsea, which she ran for five years. She retired to Ocala for the winters, where the phone was often answered by Dad as "Joby's Place.", She is survived by her husband, Manly, who lovingly referred to her as "The Bride." She is also survived by four children, Manly Hiltz Jr. and wife Wendy, Jill Labbe and husband Jim, and Susan Massey Theriault, all of Chelsea, and William Hiltz and wife Jayne of Tennessee. She is also survived by grandchildren Jim Labbe Jr. (fiancée Whitney Spicer) of Augusta, Jasmine (Jason) Dupont, Nick Kelley and Stasha Massey, all of Chelsea -- Stasha also was "Grammy's special nurse maid" these last few months -- Jess Labbe of West Gardiner, Charity (David) Clagg of North Carolina, Jeremy (Suzanne) Hiltz of Portland and Jonathan (Amber) Hiltz of Missouri; her great-grandchildren Zechariah, Jonah and Sampson Hiltz, Azariah and Silas Hiltz. Gabriella Kelley and recent addition Nicholas Carr. She also greatly enjoyed the outdoors with hobbies including, gardening, camping, traveling, fishing, deer hunting and especially moose hunting which she did well into her 70s. Kathleen Welch Dochez, PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Kathleen Welch Dochez passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011, at her home in Palo Alto, Calif., after a short illness., She leaves behind her daughters, Anne Dochez, Kate Dochez, Lynne (George) Hammitt, son, Marc Dochez; granddaughter, Nell; cousin, Deneige Pompeo; and numerous nieces and nephews., 'Kaye' was born in Westbrook on Dec. 10, 1921, to Alice and Leo Welch. She grew up surrounded by a large extended family and enjoyed summers at the lakes and beaches. She attended Westbrook High and Gorham Normal School (now the University of Southern Maine). Her first job was teaching the sub primary grades in Westbrook., It was on a trip to Portland, the day WWII ended, when Kaye met her future husband, Victor Dochez. The handsome officer in his Navy uniform won Kaye's heart. They were married eight months later and eventually moved to Palo Alto where they raised their family. They were married 63 years until Victor died in 2009., She was predeceased by her husband; parents; brother, sister; and nephew, Larry Ellis., Kaye volunteered with the local 4-H club, the Women's Guild of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, the PTA, March of Dimes and was an election officer for Santa Clara County. She later worked at Jules Rapp Jewelers and University Art Center., After retirement she enjoyed her home and garden, visiting with neighbors and traveling with her family. She kept up correspondences with her friends and family in Maine. She was admired for her wonderful sense of humor, her ability to put people at ease and her love of dancing., At Kaye's request, there will be no memorial service and her ashes will be scattered in Casco Bay by her family.

Louis Nelson Baker, REDDING, Conn. -- Louis Nelson Baker of Redding, Conn., died on Feb. 22, 2011, in Danbury, Conn. He was the husband of 56 years of Barbara (Shepherd) Baker., He was born on May 10, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio, the youngest child of Earl and Marguerite (Cutter) Baker. He spent many of his early years with his family in the Portland area where he developed a lifelong love for the Maine coast. He was a 29-year resident of Wilton, Conn., before moving to Redding 13 years ago., Mr. Baker served his country during, in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps in the European Theater. Following his service, he received a bachelor's degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1950, a master's degree from the University of Kentucky in 1951 and, a Ph.D. in genetics and animal science from the, , Madison, in 1954., He began his career teaching animal husbandry at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, then moved to Iowa State University where he worked on a research project for the Atomic Energy Commission studying the long-term generational effects of radiation. In 1968, he moved his family back to his beloved New England, taking a position at the New York Blood Center in Manhattan where, for 21 years, he held various research and administrative positions., Early in his retirement, the World Health Organization recruited Mr. Baker to visit Burma to assist it in its efforts to produce a hepatitis B vaccine for their infant population., In retirement, Mr. Baker enjoyed traveling with his family and spent many of his happiest moments at his beloved Higgins Beach, surrounded by his children and grandchildren, his family said. He also enjoyed his daily visit to the Wilton Family YMCA where he rarely missed a day. He also was a dedicated volunteer at the Mid Fairfield Hospice in Wilton., In addition to his wife, Mr. Baker is survived by his sons, Frederick and his wife Susan of Redding, Mark and his wife Sibylle of Milton, Vt., and Daniel and his wife Ellen of Appleton; six grandchildren, Donald, Rebecca and Kendall of Redding and Nathaniel, Alex and Isabel of Milton, Vt.; several nieces and nephews; and his cousin, Ann Sleight of Washington. NAPLES, Fla. - Mary E. Robinson, 73, passed away April 15, 2011, in Naples, Fla. She was born July 6, 1937, one of five daughters of Byron L. Robinson and Mary (Brown) Robinson. Mary grew up in Southwest Harbor, where she graduated valedictorian from Pemetic High School in 1955. After graduation she moved to Washington, D.C., and was employed as a secretary for the government. Mary returned from Washington, D.C., and married Richard E. Allen. They moved to Oregon, where she had her only child, Vanessa Allen Stark. The family moved back to Maine and Mary continued to work as a medical secretary in Southwest Harbor. Her next move was to Terre Haute, Ind., with her second husband, Dr. Harold Rosene. She managed a busy medical office and attended classes at Indiana State University. She loved archeology, genealogy and writing. Her later years were spent in Naples, Fla., where she enjoyed her friends, researching her family tree, and her pets. Mary was an advocate for all animals, but had a special love for cats. She is survived by her daughter, Vanessa Allen Stark and son-in-law, Timothy Stark; two sisters, Elsie Frost and Dorothy Worcester; brother-in-law, Warren Worcester; a niece, Lori Stoffel; three nephews, Duane Worcester, Craig Allen and Terry Allen; along with generations of cousins and great-nieces and great-nephews. Mary was predeceased by her parents; and sisters, Heidi Robinson and Agnes Allen. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at Mount Height Cemetery, Southwest Harbor, in conjunction with a graveside service for her sister, Agnes Allen, which will be held 1 p.m. A reception will be afterward at Harbor Ridge Great Room, 39 Freeman Ridge Road, Southwest Harbor. AUGUSTA -- Muriel Georgette Bazinet, 85, of Augusta and formerly of Lewiston, went gently from her home into that good slumber on Sunday, April 24, 2011. She was born on Oct. 12, 1925, in Lewiston, the fourth child of Arthur and Regina (Gagnon) Provost., She attended Lewiston schools. She entered the workforce and waited patiently for the return of the love of her life, who was serving his country in the European theater. Upon his return to Lewiston, Bertrand and Muriel were married on Oct. 19, 1946. They became parents and rehabilitated the duplex that became their home in Lewiston., Muriel worked for several years as a battery hand at the Edwards Division Mill of Bates Manufacturing Co. in Lewiston. After moving to Augusta in 1959, she became a sales lady in the china and glassware department at Herrick's on Water Street. She was also known for her fine sewing and upholstering skills. Many of her family and friends have pieces of furniture that she had re-upholstered with their help. But her children and grandchildren remember her best for cooking traditional French Canadian dishes, baked desserts and making heavenly pie crust from "scratch." Family was most important to her, and there were many family reunions in Boothbay Harbor. Some of her closest friends were the recipients of real Canadian maple syrup from her great-grandfather's homestead in Lambton, P.Q., Canada, where she had spent several summers as a child., After putting their children through college, Muriel and Bert bought a summer cottage in Boothbay Harbor. Muriel loved spending the entire summer at this log cabin, tending her flower boxes and gardens. Muriel and Bert also enjoyed exploring small coves along the mid-coast and boating rendezvous with their many friends., In recent years, she had developed a fondness for reading mysteries and other novels., She is survived by two children, her daughter is Suzanne Bazinet of Augusta, and her son, Ronald Bazinet, of North Attleboro, Mass; her two granddaughters Danielle Bazinet Austin and her husband, Dennis, of Taunton, Mass., and Kristin Bazinet Laureano and her husband, Javier, of Methuen, Mass. She is also survived by one precious great-grandson, Bradyn Austin, of Taunton, Mass. Her brother, Guy Provost, and wife Louise of Lewiston; and two sisters, Theresa Long, of Chicago, Ill., and Jeannine Pelletier, of Silver Springs, Md., also survive her. She has many surviving nieces and nephews, including three goddaughters, Sylvia Turgeon of Lewiston, Mona Ervin of Auburn and Donna Sutton of Cumberland. Mrs. Bazinet was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Roger of Lewiston, and Maurice of Beltsville, Md.; and three sisters Marcelle Levasseur, Lucille Saucier and Anita Philippon, all of Lewiston., There will be no public visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, at St. Augustine Church, Augusta. Committal prayers will follow in the chapel at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. GREENBUSH - Ralph E. Clarke, beloved husband for 65 years to Katie (Ray) Clarke, passed away April 26, 2011, at home, after a short battle with cancer. He was born July 10, 1925, in New York City, the son of Mildred and Thomas Clarke. He worked for 35 years for Lederle Laboratories, now Pfizer, in biological research, retiring as a supervisor. Ralph moved to Greenbush in 1979 from River Vale, N.J. He was one of the original and active member of the farmers market in Orono. He served during, with the 17th Airborne, Paratrooper Infantry, and was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge. One of Ralph's greatest joys was his airborne reunion, held every year since 1947. He was a life member of, Post No. 3381 of Old Town. All who knew him will miss his wonderful sense of humor, which was with him until the end. He is survived by his wife, Katie; son, Bruce Clarke of New Jersey; daughter, Janice Semp of Vermont; grandchildren, Tammy Colby of New Hampshire, Jeffrey Semp and Nicole Semp of California, Bruce Clarke Jr. of New York and Heather Rice of New York; and six great-grandchildren. He was also a grandfather figure to Larry Shirland of Greenbush. At his request, there is no viewing. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

BAR HARBOR - Rebecca Ann Sargent, 51, passed away peacefully April 26, 2011, at Mount Desert Island Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born March 1, 1960, in Ellsworth, daughter of Edward R. and Rosemary T. (Porter) Sargent. Becky attended Mount Desert Island High School and was a graduate of Thomas College, Waterville. She and her husband established Atkinson Builders together and helped many people fulfill their dreams of home ownership. Becky enjoyed the outdoors, taking walks, skiing, snowshoeing and swimming in Acadia. She will be remembered for her kind heart and thoughtfulness toward her family and friends. She was a wonderful mother and loved being involved with all of her children's activities. She is survived by her husband, John Atkinson of Bar Harbor; her parents of Ellsworth; two sons, Evans and Rhys Goff; sisters, Michelle Sargent of Florida, Nora Garland and husband, Bob, of Fletcher's Landing, and Maryellen Lozano and husband, August, of Bar Harbor; brothers, Gregory E. Sargent and Robert P. Sargent, both of Fletcher's Landing; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Richard L. Moore, 87, ENGLEWOOD, Fla. -- Richard L. Moore, 87, of Englewood, Fla., passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, after battling prostate cancer. Until recently, he and his wife also maintained a summer home in Cumberland Foreside., He was born in Fort Lee, N.J., on Nov. 11, 1923. During, he served in the, as executive officer aboard a Landing Craft Infantry in the South Pacific., A graduate of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., he received a bachelor's degree in chemistry and a masters degree in economics in January 1948. While at Bucknell he met the love of his life, Dorothy Jean Dillenback of Portland, his wife of 67 years, who survives him., He joined W.R. Grace & Co. in September 1956 in charge of public relations for two Grace chemical divisions. In January of 1961 he was named director of public relations and in 1971 he became vice-president of Grace's corporate communications division. His career at this Fortune 50 industrial corporation spanned 32 years., In 1982 he was a key member of the Public Relations Group on the President's Private Sector Survey of the Federal Government (aka The Grace Commission), headed by Grace's chairman, J. Peter Grace, which was charged by President Ronald Reagan to identify waste and inefficiency in the Federal Government., Up until his death, he remained active in the Grace Alumni Association, a group of former employees from around the world, writing the group's quarterly newsletter and emceeing an annual luncheon for members., He was a director of First Federal Savings and Loan Association, Montclair, N.J.; a member of the board of directors of the Laymen's Bible Committee; and chairman of the public relations committee of the Society of the Plastics Industry. He served as vice chairman and director of the American Institute of Chemists. He was a director of the Union Development Corporation, sponsoring urban programs in Montclair, N.J., where he also served on the vestry of St. James Church. He was a member of the National Association of Science Writers and a director of the Chemical Public Relations Association., His interests included memberships in the Alpha Chi Sigma, national chemical fraternity, Audubon Society, Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Society and the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors., He leaves his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Dillenback Moore; three children, Diana Moore Newman of Nashua, N.H., Pamela Ann Moore of New York City and Richard Jr. and Paula Moore of Clifton, N.J.; and four grandchildren, Eric and Lindsay Newman, John and Julia Moore.

She was the most beautiful person inside and out. Dan and Tabitha's special place was Bermuda, where they vacationed several times yearly. She was Dan's soulmate and his best friend. Dan loved her with all his heart. Dan and Tabitha were inseparable and cherished every minute of every day together. Dan felt like he was the luckiest guy in the world to be married to Tabitha. There are no words to describe the love Dan had for her and the pain he feels without her. Dan will love her with all his heart forever, and his heart will be permanently broken without her. She was the love of his life. Tabitha loved spending time with her husband and family. She doted and adored her son, Wyatt, and step-children, Bo and Taylor. Dan and Tabitha enjoyed going for walks together and taking their son to the park. They all meant the world to her. She was the co-owner of Maine Professional Hearing Center and The Perfect Gift with her husband, Dan, for the last eight years. Tabitha had an artistic gift and talent that she used to create beautiful and personal gift baskets that allowed her customers to express their love and appreciation for others. She had a passion to make each and every gift basket with love and care. Tabitha was very artistic and creative. She loved dance and art and especially gardening. She was also an unbelievable cook., She is predeceased by maternal grandparents Conrad and Mary (Morang) Hutchings. She is survived by her husband of six years, Daniel E. Edmondson, of Augusta; her son, who was everything to her, Wyatt E. Edmondson, of Augusta; two step-children whom she loved dearly, Bo D. Edmondson and Taylor D. They loved her with all of their hearts., She was born in El Paso, Texas, on Oct. 15, 1980, the only child of William and Leanne (Hutchings) Choate, to whom she meant the world., Mrs. Edmondson was a graduate of Hall-Dale High School, class of 1998, where she was salutatorian of her class. She was the co-owner of Maine Professional Hearing Center and The Perfect Gift with her husband, Dan, for the last eight years. Tabitha had an artistic gift and talent that she used to create beautiful and personal gift baskets that allowed her customers to express their love and appreciation for others. She had a passion to make each and every gift basket with love and care. Tabitha was very artistic and creative. She loved dance and art and especially gardening. She was also an unbelievable cook., She is predeceased by maternal grandparents Conrad and Mary (Morang) Hutchings. She is survived by her husband of six years, Daniel E. Edmondson, of Augusta; her son, who was everything to her, Wyatt E. Edmondson, of Augusta; two step-children, whom she loved dearly, Bo D. Edmondson and Taylor D. Edmondson, of Augusta; her parents, William and Leanne (Hutchings) Choate, of Farmingdale; paternal grandparents Richard and Virginia (Blake) Choate; mother-in-law Nancy Herlihy, of Waterville, who also loved her dearly, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins., At her request, there will be no visiting hours or memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to send any type of perennial bulbs or plants to be planted around our home. There was nothing more that Tabitha loved than having flowers and plants, and she and her mom enjoyed planting. It would mean a lot to see them blooming every year in her memory. William Morrell Merchant

MILBRIDGE - William Morrell "Big Wheel" Merchant, 85, passed away unexpectedly April 24, 2011, at Down East Community Hospital, Machias. He was born Dec. 24, 1925, on Beals Island, son of the late Ulysses W. and Gladys (Beal) Merchant. He attended school on Beals Island. During, , he served in the U.S., which took him to Germany, and later was stationed in White Sands, N.M., and while there they were testing rockets that were later used by NASA. He was married to Angie Ray of Milbridge, in 1948, until her death in 1993. Early in life he was self-employed as a clam digger and wreath maker, both of which he continued to do into his early 80s. He later joined Laborers Union Bangor Local No. 327 from which he retired. His first job was at Cutler Naval Base. He also worked at Winter Harbor and Corea Naval bases, St. Joseph Hospital, Eastern Maine Medical Center and most all paper mills. He sometimes worked 12 hours a day, seven days a week and still drove home to be with his family each night. One of his favorite pastimes was playing bingo and socializing with the other players. He is survived by two sons, George Merchant, and Sidney Merchant and his significant other, Cheryl Alley, all of Milbridge; two daughters, Lou Anne and her husband, Omar Norton Jr., of Addison, and Mona and her husband, Donald Clark, of Lamoine; eight grandchildren, Anne Marie, Michelle and Corey Norton, Melissa Wright, Sid Alley, Christi Hagan Merchant, Heather Leathers and Lisa Clark; 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins; two brothers, Jesse Merchant of Jonesport and Sidney Merchant of Beals; and one sister, Lois Merchant of Brooks. He was predeceased by a brother, James Merchant of Beals; and a grandson, Micheal Morrell Merchant of Milbridge. He will be greatly missed by his children and family. At his request there will only be a graveside service at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery, Milbridge.
